!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I grew up around the New Edge. And you know what, in my on again off again search for a Mustang, I wouldn’t mind if I ended up with one. Prices are dropping, and after living with a Fiesta, I could probably live with any interior quality.

SavageGeese video below that sparked these thoughts, even if it’s not a Terminator.

Here’s my thing: I don’t hate SN-95s. It’s impossible to. They’re a relatively light V8 powered car that can be had cheap. But the Foxbody is my all time favorite (pure bias of course!) and the S-197 hit the floors right at I reached kindergarten so I have more nostalgia for those.

It’s a classic case of not liking it as much as what came before or what came after.

That said I’d totally own a beater SN if I had the space and mo ne y.

I’m surprised these aren’t cheaper. I like them too, but for a car that sold so well all the owners seem to “know what they have”

Wait... S-197... Kindergarten...?

Oh my gods I’m getting old.

EDIT: I just realized we’re almost at a point where people with driver’s licenses weren’t alive when you could buy a New Edge new.

They’re Mustang owners, when have they actually known what the have? I had to tell my mum last night that our old 2003 Maxima and her current CR-V have more power than her V6 Mustang. And yet, she says she’ll keep it forever.

I will say after remembering it, I still love the 2000 Cobra R almost as much as the ‘93, and you absolutely must respect a Terminator.

Also, fun fact. Ford recalled all 1999 Cobras on August 6, 1999 due to them making less power than advertised. The very day I was born. I find it hilarious. It’s a stretch for a joke, but I could say my birth caused it and I’ve been screwing Mustangs up since birth. (This sounded much funnier in my head)

My theory is that the 90s were when vintage Mustangs started to bring bigger money, so SN-95s, especially since they were lauded for having more retro cues than Foxes, are owned by those who bought them thinking they’d go up in value. Sort of like how every Corvette is a 1 of 1 because it’s in this color and was built on this day during this shift and this assembly line guy put the mirrors on.

EDIT: Here’s a perfect example.

I do like the Cobra. It was as close as Ford got to a pure yet attainable sports car at the time. It makes great noises.

This turning 50 thing has been brutal. I still thought of myself as a relatively young guy until the last year or so when real live 30 year old adult men have been deferring to me and calling me “sir” without asking for money afterwards.

Yeah I’m about the same age and still think of myself as so young that no one noticeably younger really exists in a grown up sense, like to have opinions on cars. I read the “kindergatern” comment and assumed the OP was like 14 now, but the S-197 is like 15/ 16, yikes! Where have the last 5 years gone?

I always preferred the curvy/swoopy sn95 more. But dang do those terminators look good.

As for the interior, yes they’re crap. But I’ve always found it to still be comfy. I’ve done a lot of road trips in my ‘97, and rarely ever got sore from sitting in it for long periods of time. And they’re great for those summer drives at sunset with the windows down, on a nice back road.

I just can’t with the SN95/New Edge interior. I do like a couple of the cars though - 94-95 GTS, 95 Cobra R (still not horribly priced), the 99/ 01 Cobras, and the 03-04 Mach1. That interior though.. . T he strut front is also trash, but you can do an SLA conversion. That with a Watts and a torque arm would be fun for the solid rear cars .

In case you didn’t know, you could get a porno red SN95 too!

The 03 Mach 1 dropped right when I was going to graduate high school, and being that I was in love with the ‘69 Mach 1, I immediately fell in love with it.

Ended up buying an ‘04 Mach 1 after I graduated college. Stretched by budget to do it, kept it for 2 years before needing to buy a diamond ring, and it’s one of the few cars that I wish I never sold.

Kinja'd!!!

But yeah, that interior quality, even on the upper level specialty models, just has too much hard plastic and flimsy bits.

I’m pretty seriously looking at buying a Foxbody this summer, if I can find a running 5.0 5speed for less than $4k.  I mean, I l’d love another Mach 1, but the prices really haven’t dropped since I sold mine 10 years ago.

I had to tell my mum last night that our old 2003 Maxima and her current CR-V have more power than her V6 Mustang.

My first car (well, first registered car) was an ‘84 Mustang with a CFI 3.8L and a 3 speed auto. It had a whopping 120hp, and was downright slow.

But it still was more fun to drive than anything my parents had at the time.  I can completely understand the love for a V6 Mustang, as long as power isn’t a major consideration.

Dated a girl who drove one when I was in college - GT, stick, so those were big points for her initially. She came over to visit me once (we lived like an hour away from each other at the time) and I got to drive the car to dinner and back. It was fun in that rumbly big engine kind of way...but good god that interior was horrid. Not saying it had anything to do with her car choices, but relationship didn’t last much longer :P

I’m not a Mustang guy in the slightest, but gotta admit the fox bodies are growing on me.

New Edge style was what got me into Mustangs. I’d race nothing but the Cobra R on both Gran Turismo 3 and NFS Hot Pursuit II on PS2.

Not to mention, Ford created this V10 monster built off a 6.8L truck engine

I gotta agree- I do like the New Edge styling much better than the ’94-’98 “jellybeans”. BUT it bothers me to no end that they never updated the interior to match. The jellybean is more consistent.

Also, I may be biased as a ’95 owner, but I think the horizontal ’94-’95 tail lamps fit the overall design of the jellybeans better, even though the vertical housings are more true to Mustang heritage . Makes me wonder what a New Edge would look like with horizontals... Not ones ripped straight from a ’94-’95, but an actual angular New Edgey version.

Yup! How I feel. The 99 newedge’s came out right before turning 19. So, it was the post high school/college car I saw a lot and had zero interest in until about 2 years ago. I like them a lot now, ended up picking up a reddish/orange GT that somehow wasn’t molested. So now I’m the proud owner of a slow 2 valve. Haha

One of the first model cars I ever got was a bright yellow N ew E dge GT. I think I was given it, a bright red C4 Corvette, and a pale blue ‘47 Cadillac Series 62 in the same year. Because of that, probably, I also like the New Edge. I’d like one of each before I die
